  1. Any thoughts on buying a used 2006 Mercedes CLS500? I sold my F350 and have taken a new job where I will be parking a lot in airports, parking garages and extensive involvement with corporate executives on a weekly basis so I need a luxury car. Don’t want to pay the new price, so I have found several of these with around 50k miles for sale. Have never owned a Mercedes or BMW (always been a truck person) so looking for any advice on this model or a quality used Mercedes or BMW in general. I have heard that maintenance and repair costs are quite a bit higher than American cars, but don’t know what the frequency of maintenance and repairs would be for a car like this.

  2. I am looking for some cheap car rental i live in sydney and am going to Queensland so i dont mind if it is in Queensland either.. What is the cheapest I can expect to pay? I dont know a thing about car rental either so some advice would be great!

  3. So I have seen it up close, the body looks pristine and the paint and interior looks clean and not worn out at all but for only just $2700? Something does not seem right, its one of the most plushest Benzes they made in that time, with the bigger V8 5.6L engine, that from what I remember Mercedes wasn’t offically allowed to sell in this country, and most W126’s in this country are the weaker 3.8L V8 (my buddy’s Ma had a diesel W126 since his dad got so fed up with trying to sneak in a 560 SEL) and there were a lot of problems with the 3.8L model. Its an old car, but still a Benz so I am seriously thinking of getting it, but the low price makes me worried. That and this is one of the best W126’s you could have ordered coupled with the fact they weren’t officially sold here makes me wonder if this car has a shady history. Am I just being too cautious or is there a good reason why this old Benz is only $2700?
Yeah, yeah, tell me about it, at my 2nd job, my friend and I sink about $40 a day in gas at recent prices with all the driving we do, come on man, if I was that anal about gas costs I would have bought a used Geo! Get real-I want real power and a elegant plush ride, so what if its a 20 year old car!
28 MPG Highway? Cool, and I was only hoping for 25 MPG. Gotta love the Autobahn, you know theirs was the inspiration for our US Interstate system? Then-Allied Forces Europe Supreme Commander Eisenhower was highly impressed at how quick and easy it was to get around in Germany, c/o the Autobahn, and later as President, he implemented the same concept in America.
The last thing I worry about is that all the lights and wiring still work. My friend has an 86 BMW 325es and the power window switches are busted, only the sunroof still works, most of the warning lights are on because they is some problem with the sensors. But I am sure that will be unlikely in the Mercedes since the have higher initial build quality IMO.
Robert, this one appears to be an ’88 at the oldest, I am aware that a 5.6L V8 wont be the most fuel efficient ride, but I am disregarding that for the interor elegance, and solid handling common to all Benzes. I once test drove a 300D of all models, never driving a diesel car before, I expected it to be highly balky and sluggish but have really high MPG. Wrong!! This car had enough torque to get TWO cars moving based on how easily it took off and the owner had to remind me to slow down because the car ran so quiet and smooth (and it was a diesel, mind you!)that I couldn’t even tell I was doing 90 MPH in the fast lane, since A: I didn’t think a diesel would have that kind of power and B: I thought if you got a diesel up that fast it would clack and clatter like it was prepared to fall apart! I recently test drove a 280SE 4.5 and that had so much power at the ready it spun its own tires in place when I dropped it into drive, while holding my foot on the brake the whole time.

  4. The seller of this car, a Mercedes Benz dealer, said the transmission will go out soon, the reason why they’re offering to sell the car cheap. How many more miles at this stage do you think this automatic 1989 Mercedes Benz transmission will last?

  5. My GF is from Europe and loves Mercedes. For sale is a: Mercedes 190 E, 200K, “runs well”. 1 owner. $1600. Blue book is $2000.

My GF thinks this is the deal of the century. I’m concerned that a car with that many miles is gonna need a new engine, timing belt, and/or transmission.

She’s being real stubborn about 2 things…spending under $2000 and buying a Mercedes. These two things don’t go well together as used Mercedes are pricier than other brands. What would u tell her if this was ur GF?

  6. Hey, I recently found a used 2006 Mercedes CLS500 that was in a major accident that costs $20,000 less than the rest of the same car. The CLS is for sale in California.

Could the dealer lie if there was frame damage? What I’m wondering is, is there a law preventing them from lying about frame damage to the car? They didn’t state it had an accident until we specifically asked that question.

A little more info on the accident repair: The drivers side and passenger side door were both replaced with Mercedes parts, and there was a new paint job.

    Please help me ASAP!
