Custom exhaust systems for your car

What is the most beneficial thing we should know about the exhaust system in combustion? It is the mechanism for every vehicle such as car or motorcycle to cast aside unnecessary material via exhaust pipe. Some cars have bad noise which makes the owner feel uncomfortable. To reduce this noise, car owner should buy the best muffler. A muffler is a device for reducing the noise emitted by the exhaust on most vehicles especially car and motorcycle. Exhaust makes great influence on engine power. A good muffler must have a design that can provide an advantageous back pressure in order to make optimum engine power. Hence, many vehicle owners are trying to substitute the standard exhaust with an aftermarket or racing with the aim to get more herculean cars. Replacing the muffler is actually the opening move in performance modifications, but if it is wrong in choosing the exhaust pipe can’t produce a greater engine power. Quite the opposite, the exhaust will be a barrier and the car’s speed power cars will be reduced from the standard state.

  2. Hello everyone!

I have a 1989 Buick Riviera and I am seriously thinking about cutting out my catalytic converter. I was wondering if I would notice any improvements on power or fuel economy? What about the noise level? Currently, I have a custom dual exhaust system (V-Force) that is LOUD! (I would recommend this brand of exhaust to anyone who wants an awesome sounding vehicle for half the price!) Will the absence of a cat make it louder? Lastly, the most important question of all…will I see flames coming out of my tail pipes at night? I know that vehicles that are strait piped will have flames coming out the tail pipes, but what about a vehicle that has mufflers? Do the flames pass through or no? Thanks for all of your help and have a great day!

Oh yea, and the county that I live in has no emission laws/testing so this is an easy, fun, and legal upgrade to my Riv! And since my car is an ’89 I don’t have to worry about sensors and all that electronic crap that newer cars have.

  4. I have a 2002 Camaro. It has 47052 miles on it and is automatic. There isn’t anything wrong with the title. It gets about 14-17 mpg compared to its original 17-21. The A/C is great (as long as you keep it in the garage during 110 degree weather).

    The upgrades are as follows:

    $2000 for the tires
    $1000 for the body kit
    $700 for custom muffler system
$200 bucks for halo CCFL headlights

Mechanically, the A/C will be blowing 79-84 during las vegas summers of 107 degrees if you leave it outside but will blow ice cold if garaged. There is the usual rock chips on the front bumper and there are small scratches and even swirl marks here and there. A large paint fissure on the rear bumper. The engine is still outstanding, power is there accompanied with the smooth sound of the custom exhaust which makes it sound like a ferrari.

KBB value for my car is 9,170 for good and 8,270 for fair. I would be honest and go with fair.

Honestly I need to get rid of this car because people keep looking at me and saying “how does an 18 year old kid drive a car like that?” or “I’m jealous I’m gonna key your car”

How much should I price this on Craigslist so that even economy-pressured people will still consider buying this car?

Oh yes it has service engine soon light. We do not know what is wrong. We recently replaced the catalytic converter and the light went off for a while. Something with software. Not hardware. Radiator is brand new also (with brand new coolant *cough*)

  5. I recently bought a 2000 Mustang. The previous owner had to inspected. The mechanic (in a small town) mentioned an exhaust leak from the midpipe just below left exhaust manifold. Said he could patch it up real cheap. Didn’t get it done because I’m replacing most of the exhaust system. Took my car in for an oil change today and (for the hell of it) asked Goodyear for a quote on fixing the exhaust leak. They came back saying $500 for parts and labor. Took the car over to the muffler shop to get a custom exhaust system put on. Mentioned the exhaust leak and the guy tells me if it actually is a leak in the exhaust manifold, he’ll fix it for $50. If not, all the better. Ever get the feeling your normal mechanic might be taking advantage of you?

(I plan on going to college for something vehicle related but the reputation mechanics have is kind of scary. It’s worse when you see the reputation become a reality.)
@Chrys: $275 for stock exhaust manihold + $225 for labor = $500. Yes, I’m well aware of what the costs were for.

@Ironball: I’m not worried about how long the patch will hold. In the spring I plan on looking into long tube headers. I’d rather spend a little to keep it running well through the winter than to pay all that for a new header only to pay more for different headers in 6 months.

  6. I’m looking for custom headlights, i found some Spyder halo headlights for $285…Kind of high on my price range, but they are very attractive….http://www.carid.com/2005-pont.....15223.html

this link is the link for them i was thinking of purchasing…ive done research and read that they arent necessarily good for night driving, seeing the only time i really drive at night is from work, 5 miles, it wouldnt be that much of a deal since its mostly street lights.

give me your feedback on them, and if you have suggestions of buying something else, please stay under a $250 price range please.

second thing im looking at is tail lights.
the tail lights i found are on this site,
    http://www.carid.com/2005-pont.....15223.html

and they look really nice. Now i dont know a lot about cars, especially aftermarket parts, so please, if im looking at stuff that isnt no good, please let me know, leave feedback and links to parts that would look a lot nicer. and these i want under $250 as well.

im also looking for an exhaust system as well. mostly just a exhaust pipe to make it sound more nice than the stock one. so please post a link to some nice pipes, but be price reasonable…the ones ive seen i liked are under $100. so please leave me some good tips on choosing pipes.
